Bhopal Switched-off on Earth Hour 2023

The Biggest Hour For Earth –  Earth Hour was celebrated in Bhopal on 25th March with enthusiasm. It is one of the biggest grass root campaign urging people to show support by switching off their non-essential lights between 8:30 PM – 9:30 PM. The awareness campaign comprised several components requesting people to become more sensitive towards environment and conservation of our natural resources. On 25th March morning, 250 cyclicts of bhopal participated in a 20 KM long cyclothon on theme ‘Pedal for the planet” which was inaugurated by Mayor Mrs. Malti Rai starting from WWF India Madhya Pradesh State Office. On 25th March various prominent places of Bhopal supported switch-off by turning off the lights between 8:30 PM -9:30 PM including Ranikamlapati Station, Raja Bhoj Setu, Ranikamlapati Arc Bridge, Smart City Park, Raja Bhoj Statue, DB City Mall among other places. During the campaign, WWF Volunteers performed several street plays at various places including Boat Club, 10 No. Market, New Market and DB City mall. The theme of the play was focused on reflecting what would happen to humans if we do not reverse the impact of climate change. Similarly, several communities radios across Madhya Pradesh were engaged to create awareness about environment and climate change through series of expert talks. Community Radios included Radio Bundelkhand 90.4, Radio Raman 90.4, Radio Dastak 90.8, Radio Goonj, Kisan Vaani, Hamar Radio, and Arpa Radio. Going beyond the earth hour, WWF India, Madhya Pradesh State Office will be conducting several awareness sessions with college students on citizen science.
